Direct Tenant Organizing (DTO)

Tenant-to-tenant canvassing and outreach to agitate, educate, and organize tenants in their building to collectively advocate for their protection and benefit, form local tenant unions, and assert tenant power through direct action.

Membership Engagement (MEWG)

Engage members in struggle for tenants’ rights, build community of solidarity among members, facilitate member involvement in democracy of PTU, educate members about services, grow membership.

Outreach, Advocacy and Coalitions (OAC)

Advocating for policy change, meeting with policymakers, strategizing about expanding tenant protections within the halls of power, engaging sister organizations through inter-organizational outreach to build coalitions that fight for housing justice through
intersectional solidarity.

Creative Resistance and Culture (CRaC)

Culture-jamming, propaganda, street theater, designing and building props, writing and performing political music, agitational art, posters, flyers, and handbills, writing and recording podcasts.

Communication with media, giving interviews, writing and distributing press releases and advisories, writing content for social media.

Emotional Support and Accountability (ESA)

Enhancing healthy and culturally sensitive relationships within PTU, as well as with the Portland community and others at large, by constructively mediating disputes, pursuing accountability for grievances, and training members in equity, inclusion and group care.
